Day in the Life (Teacher)

8:50am

After morning arrival and morning work, each class takes part in a Morning Meeting. This is one of the most important daily rituals in my classroom.

Wissahickon values social/emotional learning, so every class takes time for a Morning Meeting in order to build community in the classroom.

11:15am

While my students attend Library class, I meet with my Assistant Teacher to plan for tomorrow's math centers.

Assistant Teachers are placed in every K-2 classroom. In grades 3-5 and in Middle School, Apprentice Teachers focus support in Math and English Language Arts classes.

1:45pm

In the afternoon, our class checks on the plants we've been growing. Students measure, draw, label, and write about how the plants have changed.

Wissahickon's interdisciplinary approach makes it possible for teachers to be creative in the classroom.

3:15pm

It's time for dismissal and I check in quickly with a student before she leaves. She shares some good news and a smile.

4:00pm

I sharpen pencils at the end of the school day and the Lower School Director gives me helpful feedback on my lesson plans. I feel ready for tomorrow!

Teachers receive feedback, coaching, and support from knowledgeable Teacher Leaders and Instructional Directors. Professional growth is a priority.
