Meet Tyshawn, one of our 8th grade students at Awbury who has recently developed his own clothing brand called “Game Boi.” When asked how he created the company name, he said, “I like playing video games, and I’m a boy.” The name is also a spin on “Game Boy,” the handheld game console released by Nintendo in 1989. Tyshawn contemplated the idea of starting his own business while at home, one day, with his dad. They were brainstorming ways for Tyshawn to make little income, such as raking his neighbors’ leaves, when his dad suggested that he start his own business. Soon after, Tyshawn approached his classmate and best friend, Jabriel, to support these efforts and help design a logo. Together, they design their own t-shirts, hats, and hoodie sweatshirts, while Tyshawn’s dad helps them print, and manage orders that they receive on Instagram. While Tyshawn hopes to one day study music, acting, or play professional baseball, he plans to continue this entrepreneurial endeavor. We wish Tyshawn great success with his business!
